About Marguerite Redwine
Marguerite Redwine served as CEO of VIA LINK for 17 years, retiring in 2014. During her tenure, the 211 dialing code was developed nationally, with the FCC designating 211 as the three-digit code for information and referrals to health and human services. She secured this designation from the Public Service Commission in 2001 for the 985 and 504 area codes.
In 2002, the National Suicide Prevention LIFELINE was created, and Mrs. Redwine led the effort to get VIA LINK certified as part of this national crisis line — known today as 988, providing 24/7 free, confidential support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress.
