PREA Hotlines

VIA LINK provides Prison Rape Elimination Act Hotlines for Facilities Throughout Louisiana

The Law

The Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) is a federal law that was enacted in 2003.  It was created to eliminate sexual assault in America’s prisons, juvenile detention facilities and immigration detention centers. These facilities are required to offer an independent third party hotline for reporting.  VIA LINK provides this service to sheriff departments and other agencies throughout Louisiana.

Professional Services for Correctional Facilities and Inmates

One resource that PREA requires is a hotline that gives inmates an external, confidential source where they can report assault and receive emotional support.  We provide correctional facilities with a dedicated 24/7 phone line and translation services in over 150 languages.  We also provide customized reporting that meets all PREA standards.  Contact Andrew Holbein at [email protected] for more information about these services for correctional facilities.

The PREA hotline serves inmates as well as third parties, including family members, friends and volunteers (though third-party callers do not receive counseling services). The PREA Hotline number for the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office is 504-717-2279.
