About Marguerite Redwine
1943 – 2023
Marguerite Redwine served as CEO for VIA LINK for 17 years and retired in 2014. During her tenure, the 211 dialing code was developed nationally with the FCC designating 211 as the 3-digit dialing code for information and referrals for health and human services. Mrs. Redwine was able to garner this dialing code from the Public Service Commission (PSC) in 2001 for the 985 and 504 area codes. VIA LINK had been known as the community’s Volunteer Information Agency, building a resource directory of services offered by non-profits at no charge to the community and other assistive services for individuals. Being part of the national 211 system brought this work forward.
In 2002, the National Suicide Prevention LIFELINE was created. Mrs. Redwine was able to get VIA LINK certified to be part of this national crisis line, which today has the 3-digit dialing code of 988. Today, 988 provides 24/7 free, confidential support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress.
